The Top 10 Most UNORIGINAL Things You Can Say to a Girl Gamer
Feb 23, 3:01 am

Female gamers are subject to harassment every single day, every single minute, while playing online games.  Although voice communication is a wonderful thing in online gaming, some girls would rather choose not to talk or use a name that would not identify them as females simply to have a little peace.

As funny and quick as the guys that go around subjecting female gamers to harassment consider themselves, they are truly not as original as they think.  Why?  Because it is the same thing said over and over and over.  So, to all the guys out there that like to give us girls a taste of your ever-so-witty sarcasm and flavor, I went ahead and wrote down the most common things us girls hear on a daily basis, so go ahead and try to get creative instead of falling into the same old bullying lines.  If you have said any of the following (either to hit on, pick on or insult a girl), you truly don’t deserve to exist - so get out your pen and paper and come up with something new.

1. Are you hot? / You sound hot!
This is probably the most common thing we hear, so what the hell do my looks have to do with kicking your ass?  Do you really think this question is going to make me like you or want to talk to you?

2. Are you a boy?
Would you feel better if I was so you can live with yourself instead of losing to a girl?  Do you realize how insulting this is when you can simply do a little investigating before you ask this dumb question?  Why don’t you take the time to:
a. Listen to me communicate and wait and see.  Girls have a distinct way of communicating, laughing, and joking with people and you might be able to pick up that female tone if you just wait a few minutes instead of blurting crap like this out.
b. Take a look at my gamertag and see if there are any hints to it - many times there will be something in that tag that can help you decipher between male or female.
c. Wait for their friends to give you clues by the way they communicate.  Girls usually like to play with their friends and normally don’t join other rooms alone.  Listen for them using female pronouns or, if another potential girl joined, you might be onto something - girls travel together normally as well.

3. Get back into the kitchen and make me a ... (sandwich, turkey pot pie, etc.)
We know you’re lazy-ass gamers, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t the same.  Go make your own damn food.

4. You must be fat and ugly.
Yep, 300 pounds with warts all over.  Gimme a break… do you really think you can hurt our feelings with this one?  We all get together and have sleepovers laughing about this one.

5. Girls don’t play! / I didn’t know girls played games. / You’re not a girl!
Most of these comments aren’t even intentionally harmful, but this is about as stupid as it gets.  I’m sorry your world has yet to expose you to the unicorn myth of girl gaming but, please, this is as insulting as it can get because it is not based on being mean.  It is based on stupidity.

6. Where do you live? / How old are you? / What’s your Aim?
Has this EVER worked for anyone when asking a girl gamer they just met?  I seriously doubt it and nothing will turn us off faster if you really just met us and are trying to hit on us.

7. I can’t believe we lost to a girl!
Well, I can’t believe it’s not butter!  Another comment not usually meant to be mean, but just as insulting nonetheless.  Please refrain from the sexism.

8. Do you have a video cam?
Sure, lets jump on it and cyber right now so I can rock your world!  Are you kidding me?

9. Shouldn’t you be playing...? (Pac-Man, Uno, Tetris, etc.)
Actually, we play these games all the time - you see, we’re don’t limit ourselves to genres; we play whatever tickles our fancy, be it pink, be it blue, be it purple.  Isn’t that what gaming is about?  Besides, it doesn’t change the fact we are stomping you on an FPS at the same time.  Come up with a better insult.

10. ANYTHING TO DO WITH OUR SEX AT ALL!
This is simply a golden rule.  If you just met a girl gamer (or potential girl gamer), don’t talk or allude to their sex in anyway.  Why?  Because it isn’t about our gender and until we get to know you we don’t want to get personal.  Simply play the game, start up general conversations after playing awhile, add us to your friends list and never throw out the girl card at all until you have actually made a friend!  This is how the guys really get and stay on our friends list - they are simply cool to hang out with and don’t do or say stupid things that makes us think they are being nice (or mean) simply because we are girls.
