Long ago I was driven from random matchmaking rooms, forums, and games that allowed people I have never interacted with before the opportunity to open their mouths. Was it because I was getting my ass kicked? Hell no. Was it because I wasn’t getting enough competition? Uh, sometimes. Was it because they were playing random stupid games they made up? Occasionally. Really though, the reason I quickly switched to a new game or would simply only play when I had enough friends on to play with in custom rooms, was because of the outrageous amounts of smack talk most people partake in when playing games.
Now, I am a big fan of playful smack talk and good, healthy, fun competition. I don’t get angry when one of my friends teabags my face. I sit there and giggle with a quick comeback when they rub it in that they fragged me. I am actually a promoter of having fun, quick, and witty banter among my crowd while taking pleasure in owning my friends. Key word here people, my FRIENDS.
The randomness of the rude people trolling games out there and harassing everyone and their mother is absolutely ridiculous. If I have one more 12 year old call me a fat, ugly, b****, ask me to make him food, or tell me he can give me a good time, I think I am going to explode. Online anonymity has its pros, but the cons are hard to ignore. I am the same person online as I am offline, and why people think they can get away with anything because you don’t know who they are or can’t see their face is really a human trait we can do without.
You anonymous people may feel you have no accountability for your actions, and maybe you don’t care about your “gamer” reputation, but can’t you just simply be human beings and have some respect for your fellow gamers? In games and in forums, I see so much disrespect going on that it makes me sick. That’s kind of why I don’t sit on any other forums all day anymore. Since there is not much occurring in terms of consequences, some forums are simply a soapbox for rude and disruptive conversational behavior. And don’t get me started on trolls.
And it doesn’t stop there! You should also see some of the emails or PM’s I get from random people on my MySpace, too. Things like “I’d do you”, “Girls suck at games”, “wh***”, “wanna suck my ****”. Seriously, that short, that rude, and that annoying. Anyway, I am simply on my latest rant due to a couple of situations being back to back where online anonymity personalities kicked into over-drive. I thought I would make it my rant of the week. I know it will continue and there is nothing I can do about it, but maybe one person that reads this is an online A-hole and will change his spots. I doubt it, but here’s to positive thinking…
