Now that World of Warcraft has followed the footsteps of Microsoft and integrated achievements in its game, as you can imagine I have been addicted to hunting these down and obtaining them. I know some people could care less about achievements and tend to mock those that seek them as wasting their time, but there is just something about working hard and taking the time to even go out of your way to collect them. I guess that’s what I am, a collector and while I know that drive to round up these small yet mostly elusive badges has to be psychologically based; to me they become part of beating the games themselves.
As of now, I have all the current gaming systems, yet I still buy my games on Xbox if it is there first, simply for the achievements, with WoW it seems I’m even more dedicated to attaining them. On Xbox, while I will spend some time looking over achievements and figure out which I can obtain while playing and how to go about it, I won’t spend hours upon hours going out of my way to get that message “Achievement Unlocked”. However, on World of Warcraft I already have days looping around all the worlds, fishing, cooking, questing, running old content, and all the other things needed to make this a true time sucker- a time sucker that the achievement itself keeps pushing me for. I am hovering around 30th on my server since I started collecting these on a consistent basis, and am sitting pretty at 5085 points. The world leaders of course are kicking my butt with over 7,000 but I am confident I will get up there, as most of them started working on this before me. Not to mention, I don’t PvP and will be saving these for last.
While I have managed to finally get some very rare drop rate achievements, the one I am most proud of is my Loremaster achievement in which I obtained when I completed most of the quests in the game. I received my Loremaster title and about the ugliest tabard you could imagine in the game. Hardly anyone has this achievement and it takes a few weeks to get it done, but at least you can run around the game with a huge exclamation point on your body that hardly anyone else has. lol
I had a very lucky day the other day. My first Oracle egg hatched and while there is no achievement instantly the rare Green Proto Drake that hatched from it goes towards my mount collection. I then went fishing in Dalaran and finished up the coin achievement to get my lucky flip coin. After that, I went to try and get Mr. Pinchy -a rare crawdad you fish up- and got him in about 10 minutes. Feeling my luck, I went to Iron Forge to try and get the rare crocodile Old Iron Jaw. I caught him in ten minutes but unfortunately I recast too fast and didn’t loot his bind on pickup, so now I have to do it again. I really couldn’t complain after spending hours upon hours trying to catch all these before, but man that did suck.
Here is a LINK to my cumulative and working achievements. Anyway, I know most here won’t be obsessed with achievements and will be bashing on it at first opportunity, but is anyone else addicted to working on these themselves?
