It’s Time To Battle

My heart belongs to Just Dance. It will forever be my favorite dance game, BUT there is something to be said about playing a dance game that has a leaderboard. The presence of a leaderboard turns the dance genre into serious business. When I play Dance Central, I don’t come to merely play, I come to battle.
Like everyone else, I got the Kinect and went out and bought games I normally wouldn’t buy just to be able to use it. Dance Central was one of those games. When I first played through a few of the songs, I found the game too challenging and thought, “there is no way I’m getting into this game”. Then I started to hit a few of the moves correctly and my scores improved. The really big breakthrough came when I realized the game was showing me the scores of all the other people on my Xbox friend’s list who also play this game. Discovering I was only a few thousand points away from being #1 was all it took....I was hooked. I played the song again and again until my name was at the top of the list.
Everyday, I would play the same few songs over and over in the hopes of beating Phoenix’s scores. You see, she was number 1 on almost every song. My desire to beat her scores became my obsession. Little did I know she was having the same experience looking at my scores.
Once I would beat her score, I would move on to the next song. Each day I would come back and check the leaderboards. And wouldn’t you know it, she had beaten my recent score. So I would work on taking back my #1 spot. This went on and on. Phoenix and I were not alone in our fierce battle of the dance, others from our community soon joined us in the pursuit to be #1 on the Dance Floor.
Fighting for first place has been a lot of fun. However, I wish there were more to the leaderboards than just the scores. I want specifics! I wish the game gave us detailed info regarding each song. I wonder how many times we have played each song in our quest to see our name at the top of the list?
For example, the game says I have played “Evacuate the Dance Floor” 61 times. I have spent a total of 12 hours and 11 min total playing Dance Central. My favorite dancer is Mo, I’ve taken 3,888 photos, I’ve earned 1,175 stars and unlocked 21 of the games achievements. I want to know these kinds of things about everyone else.
I imagine the others (much like myself), sweating profusely, out of breath, all of our furniture pushed out of the way, each with a serious look of determination on our faces trying to out do one another. I don’t know about everyone else, but I do not look very cool playing this game (as my freestyle camera clearly indicates) but the battle rages on.
These are the songs we have been raging over most and based on my friends list, here are the scores to beat:
- Poker Face -
142. VballChick PMS Hard 886,946
255. Slickrick2345 Hard 886,564
444. PHOENiX FD Hard 882,740
- Hey Mami -
149. Spectra FD Hard 750,439
302. PHOENiX FD Hard 746,075
628. Slickrick2345 Hard 741,123
- I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) -
892. Spectra FD Hard 906,244
7931. Slickrick2345 Hard 821,371
31681. Midnight917 Hard 658,254
- Evacuate The Dance Floor -
23. Spectra FD Hard 754,549
69. Slickrick2345 Hard 747,157
13677. Midnight917 Hard 600,966
- Crank That (Soulja Boy) -
4496. Slickrick2345 Hard 804,124
4996. Spectra FD Hard 797,065
17935. Midnight917 Hard 675,112
We have been accused of only battling on the “easy” songs. So, I decided to learn a “more difficult” song. We haven’t started playing it on hard yet so the #1 spot is ripe for the taking. If you think you got what it takes, here are the scores to beat.
- Teach Me How To Jerk -
13602. Spectra FD Medium 454,882
66479. Eksy Easy 228,907
80498. PHOENiX FD Easy 210,139
I take this dance battle thing very seriously. I must be #1. I will be #1. Phoenix, Slickrick, Vball, Megu, clear the dance floor, “I’m about to show you what makes me so special”.
