Calling All CSI’s
Oct 26, 8:00 am

Over the last few weeks I have been participating in the advanced beta for the new facebook game CSI: Crime City. “Participating” is an understatement. I have been glued to my computer twenty-four seven. I’ve spent every waking minute searching crime scenes, finding evidence, upgrading equipment and ranking up. You might be able to say I am obsessed. It’s been a while since a game has hooked me in like this. I never expected to be this affected by a facebook game. But I am, and I’m having a lot of fun with it so I thought I would see if I can get some of you hooked on it too. smile

**HERE IS SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE GAME**

Work though a series of unique cases all written by the writers from the TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Search crime scenes for clues, fingerprints, and evidence while spending energy, earning funding and gaining experience points.

Searching crime scenes and solving the cases gives you funding rewards. The faster you complete the case the greater the reward. Use your funds to purchase upgrades for you tools and lab equipment. If you cannot afford upgrades you can visit a friend’s lab and use his or her equipment.

Customize your lab and decorate it to reflect your personal style.

Focus Challenges provide you with opportunities to win coffee. (Coffee gives you energy and you need energy to search crime scenes) The more matches you make during a focus challenge, the bigger your reward is (like making 3 matches before the time runs out gives you a medium size coffee, 5 matches gives you a large coffee). I have not made it past 5 matches so I don’t know what you get, maybe one of you will be able to get past 5 - keep me posted!

**TIPS FROM MARK HAGGEN (a game designer on CSI: Crime City)**

The upgrades do matter. Mark says each piece of evidence has a predetermined time it takes to process it. You can reduce that time by processing it in a higher level machine, or processing it simultaneously with other items for a “Friend Boost.” Level 2 equipment processes everything 10% faster, Level 3 is 20% faster, Level 4 is 30% faster, and Level 5 is 50% faster. Higher level equipment also has more slots, allowing for bigger friend boosts (which stack with baseline equipment speed increases).

On the best way to get a better time bonus when you complete your case, Mark says “If you’re looking to zoom through a case, I’d recommend a saved-up supply of coffee, access to high-level equipment, some friends to work with for friend bonuses, the willingness to leave behind tiles, and a dash of luck.”

On how to gain the largest bonuses while searching a crime scene Mark says, “My go-to strategy involves searching trace tiles early in a session to charge up the Bonus bar, and then switching to regular tiles to get maximum advantage from the multiplier.”

For those of you who are looking for ways to kill time at the office or just looking to lose yourself dusting for prints, spending energy points and gaining XP, you’re in luck, CSI: Crime City is now available to everyone! You have to check it out.

If you start to play, friend me on facebook so you can share my lab. I’ve made a few upgrades and I’m always looking for people to work together with to increase the friend bonuses. Now get to work CSI!
