“Maybe all women can do wonders if put to the test!” - Diana Prince
I just got the original Wonder Woman series on DVD. I love this TV show!! It’s awesome 70’s TV at it’s finest. I don’t think I had ever seen the 1st season before. The 1st season was set in the 40’s and Wonder Woman spent most of her time fighting Nazi’s. I was too young to watch the show when it originally aired but was the perfect age when it went into syndication. I spent a considerable amount of time as a child running around the back yard in my Wonder Woman underoos, with dixie cups on my wrists, deflecting bullets and trying to lasso imaginary bad guys.
My adoration and affinity for Wonder Woman, a distinctly feminist role model, has not changed much over the years. If anything, it has gotten stronger. I am now old enough to appreciate her message of women’s rights and empowerment, believing that her Amazonian ideals of love, peace, and equality are timeless. Wonder Woman fights for justice and democracy and triumphs with her power and kindness. She is more than just a beautiful woman in a groovy swimsuit.
I still want to be like Wonder Woman and now I can afford more than just dixie cups and underwear. One of these days, I definitely have to get me a Wonder Woman costume. She’s the coolest!
