Let the goomba live
Dec 17, 8:18 am

It’s a fact that we all like different kinds of games. But even those who like the same games have totally different playing styles. I guess after a few conversations over the past 2 weeks, I started realizing what kind of gamer I am.

Fact #1) I don’t pick up all the coins and I let the goombas live

I was just having this discussion with Valkyrie the other week about what type of gamers we are. She’s the type that would have picked up every coin and jumped on every goomba in Super Mario Bros, while I’m the type to pick up a coin only if it happens to be in my way while jumping from one platform to the other. I love discovering secrets in games, but I won’t go out of my way to discover every nook and cranny on a level. For eg, in Super Mario Bros 3, World 8, ship #2, I figured out that you could just swim underneath the ship and pretty much bypass every enemy and bullet along the way! Maybe some gamers would insist on passing it the RIGHT way, but I just figure this way is more efficient.

Fact #2) I hate frequent saving

Put me on any action/adventure game and I will only save the minimal number of times. Unless I just did something fantastic in the game that I cannot replicate or I beat a really hard boss, I find it really tiresome to save for some reason! Sometimes I get really irritated gaming with people who go totally out of their way to run ALL the way back to the beginning of a level, just to get that save. I know this is mean, but I just keep thinking, “Let’s go!! Move on already!” Or the people who kill a few enemies, save, kill a few enemies, save, etc, etc. I guess that’s why single player games are meant for one person, not two.

Fact #3) I hate getting lost in WOW

I already have very little time to game. So when I’m on a mission in WOW to pick some herbs, find some particular quest item, or even meet up with one of my friends in WOWland, I don’t have time to spare. Before you go assuming that I’m one of those girls with a bad sense of direction, let me just tell you that I am not one of those girls. I am GREAT with directions. But I don’t know how many times I’ll be wandering in an area trying to get somewhere and I’ll be at a point where either I can backtrack in order to get to the place I DO know, OR I can keep going and hope that this next area connects to the place I’m trying to get to. And since I’m too lazy to backtrack, I always take the other route and end up wandering around aimlessly for like 40 minutes! Or even those times I’ll be discovering new territories in WOW, get stuck in a high level area and have so much trouble getting out and finding the exit! I hate wasting time in WOW and feeling like I haven’t accomplished anything during my precious gaming window.

Fact #4) I’m a “run and gun” kinda gal

This is why Brookelyn and I are always the first ones dead on our team. I cannot sit back and camp. I really get bored out of my mind. This is probably why I’m so impatient with slower strategic shooters and prefer the fast paced ones. Of course this gets me in a lot of trouble when we do 4 on 4 challenges, especially in team survival mode. I’m definitely never the survivor.

Fact #5) I like all sorts of games

RPG, RTS, FPS, DDR, Puzzle, arcade, hand held, pc, or whatever. If it’s a good game, I’ll play it. And yes, even sports games.
