I recently started watching season one of LOST. To sum up it up (without any spoilers), a plane crashes on this beautiful island and a bunch of survivors not only have to deal with living in peace with each other but also with the strange surroundings. And not just strange meaning “new”, strange meaning something unnatural is out there. IT lives in the jungles and IT devours people. It’s like Gilligan’s Island with a taste of Twin Peaks.
And what a coincidence that I also started playing Far Cry Instincts this week. Does that screenshot on the right look familiar or what? Jack Carver, stranded on a jungle island - his survival dependent on “the sample” which turns him into the predator. Ooh! And Predator mode for Multiplayer is definitely something. One person in the room is randomly chosen to be the predator and the rest are regular humans. At first I didn’t think the predator stood a chance. One predator for every four humans? Come on!
Of course I was wrong and it was quite the fair game because once you’re a predator, you run faster, can track enemies down by following their trail, and with one Wolverine-like swipe, your enemy is down. This is by far my new favorite mode because it’s quick, it’s fun, and I love the thrill of screaming when you see that predator lunging at you and you know that you have no chance of survival. Eek! Even more thrilling when you’re able to take down that predator by dual wielding some pistols! w00t!
Plus I’ve never had this happen before. Sure, we start seeing red reticles on people’s foreheads after too many FPS’, but I’ve never felt like I’m playing a game while watching TV show. It’s bizarre. The unknown IT in LOST, making creepy sounds in a T-Rex fashion while one of the survivors is shaking at the knees, is exactly how I feel when I see a predator after me during a Far Cry multiplayer match! And when I’m the predator, I can almost see the terror in the eyes of my next victim - well, I can definitely hear them on the mic going “Please don’t kill me, please don’t kill me! AHHHHGHGH!!!” Playing this game totally enhanced the show and vice versa.
And I’ve never been so thrilled to be so terrified.
