Last week I was pretty out of it. But after some rest, Chicken and Stars soup, and a few games of Open Season, I was ready to hop back on Xbox Live. I remembered someone talking about the TMNT 1989 arcade game and decided to look it up. I wasn’t sure if this was the game I remembered playing in the arcade, but once I saw the opening screen, I knew it was the one.

My gaming partner and I sat down and eagerly smashed the two buttons that made this game so fun in the arcade. I don’t think I had ever made it past level 2 (or at least wanted to invest THAT many quarters). But with what seemed like unlimited lives and 4 turtles to choose from, we breezed through the game easily in about 30 minutes.

After we beat it, I thought about the 400 credits I paid for the game - about $5 when it comes down to it. That’s quite a bargain when I think about all the quarters I invested in the arcade. It felt like we must have died at least 30 times EACH, which would have cost about $15 back in the day. That’s 60 quarters and a lot for little kids! The XBL download was totally worth it. I was also reminded of the Simpsons arcade game. Now, if the gaming gods will just make that one available…
