I
Feb 20, 9:09 am

The month of February is usually associated with hearts, candy, and chocolate.  Everything, of course, revolves around Valentine’s Day - where you’ll be, if you have a date, what your plans are.  But for me, there’s only been one thing on my mind this month - the New York Comic Con.

I had the privilege of attending the first annual NY Comic Con last year.  It was far inferior to the San Diego Comic Con but, as time goes on, it only gets better and better.  This year is supposed to be twice as big!!  Of course, I’ve already been checking the list of special guests and who will be attending - among them are people like Hayden Panettiere (the cheerleader from Heroes), Stan Lee (the creator of X-Men, Spiderman, and Stephen King!  Those are some pretty big names and, if you know me, you’ll know that when it comes to famous people, I get totally starstruck.  When I met Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston at a Radiohead concert years ago, I could barely even say “Hi,” let alone give a slight wave of acknowledgment.  I just sat there like an idiot while my friend did all the talking.  And when Brookelyn and I stood in the rain outside of TRL to see Gwen Stefani, we waved and screamed from excitement like teenie-bopper tweens.

As for this year, I’m already making my list of who and what I want to see.  My inner comic geek (which you can listen to in a CGS podcast here) will make sure I get a glimpse of Jim Lee while he’s sketching to those select few people who waited the hours in line, which I unfortunately don’t have time for.  My inner anime fan will be checking out all the cosplayers and admiring their costume making skills while secretly wishing that I had dressed up too.  And my Frag Doll self will be cruising with Psyche and Brookelyn, making our rounds to all the gaming booths as well as playing our hearts out on GRAW 2!!

Comic cons aren’t just about comic books anymore - they encapsulate so much more of the entertainment industry than people realize.  Even if you’ve never gone to a comic con, I highly recommend that you check one out.  So if you’re in the NY area on February 23-25, come out, hang out, and game on!
