Have controller, will travel
Apr 25, 7:11 am

One of the best things about being a Frag Doll is going to events. So when I found out I was going to attend the first two weeks of Best Buy’s Electronic Gaming Championship, I was thrilled. Ah yes, Best Buy – the place for all a gamer girl’s needs. smile The first week was at Oceanside (as Jinx mentioned), the second week was at Orange. Well, even though both events were extremely fun, I had a hell of a time getting there. We all know what a pain it can be to travel sometimes. Waiting in all those lines, sitting in a cramped seat, delayed flights, lost luggage, the list goes on and on. So let me recap my two painful weekends of traveling.

Week 1:
Since I used to live in San Diego and Oceanside is somewhat nearby, a friend and I decided to fly down there together to visit some friends in SD. His flight was on Friday night but mine was on Saturday morning. And as luck would have it, we didn’t really double check his flight time b/c by the time I dropped him at the airport, his flight was taking off. Oops. Luckily, he was able to book it for the next morning around the time that I would be taking off. So since we had a free night, we headed out w/some friends to a local club, had a good time and that was that. So Saturday morning rolls around and we’re at the airport and walking inside when I realize that I don’t have my ID! I had taken it out and put it in my jeans pocket the night before! I can’t go dancing while carrying a purse, right?! So I tell my friend to go ahead, I speed home, grab my ID and arrive back at the airport. Of course by this time the security line has tripled so I resort to asking someone towards the front if I can cut in considering my flight leaves in 15 minutes. This guy gives me a very insulted look and says “You’re quite a tricky one, aren’t you?” I plead with him and reassure him that my flight really does leave in 15 min, so he finally lets me in. 10 min later, I’m sprinting to the gate, which happens to be the farthest one. I get there and see the plane with 5 minutes to spare, but no one is around! I go to a counter and tell them that I need to get on that plane. But he says that all doors have closed. He even calls the captain and affirms this. Gee, thanks. I thought he was going to ask if I could get on, but he didn’t. I panic and make the necessary calls and within 30 min, I’m on the next flight out on a different airline. I meet Jinx at the airport, we prep ourselves in the car ride over and arrive just in time for some spy vs. merc action.

Week 2:
w00t. 7am on a Saturday morning. So this time I’m prepared. I’m at the airport by 6:15 and ready to go. I get on the plane and am getting ready to nap when everything just shuts off. They tell us they’re having “electrical failures”. Great. 30 min later, they announce that we all need to get off the plane. People are just hanging out around the gate now and starting to line up. I have no idea why. But 10 min later, they announce that we won’t take off until 9:30am! Sigh. So I wander away and read some magazines. Suddenly there’s an announcement that we’re leaving – now. Sheesh, make up your mind! So now I’m back on the plane, already delayed about 1.5 hours. At least I made it in one piece. I kept thinking the plane could just shut down any second while we were flying. Eek.

So the Best Buy even turned out to be even better than the first one! Eekers and I played so many rounds of SC:CT, we ran out of $5 consolation gift cards! I think my favorite round was with these two 10 year old boys. After we beat them, they said “Wow! You guys are sooo good!” That was the cutest. You never know about kids. Sometimes they surprise you with their skillz. Another cool thing was the “stump the geek” game (by Geek Squad). Oh, and Spike TV even showed up! All in all, another successful (and fun) Frag Doll event.

Phew! Thanks for reading.
