If you’re part of our normal forum community, then this is just old news to you. But if you’re not a regular reader of our site, then maybe you haven’t heard the latest and greatest news about Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. As you all know, I recently went to the NY Comic Con to check it out and play some games. My stay was short, but I had a blast. I arrived at the event at 11 AM on Saturday and got right to playing GRAW.
My first impression was that the graphics were amazing - case en point, the map on the dock where it’s raining has the most realistic puddles I have ever seen! Secondly, the gameplay was awesome! The smooth movement combined with the “ghosty” night vision view and awesome surround sound from my headphones made everything feel so real! So I admit that I’m not the best at Tom Clancy games, especially Ghost Recon. They require a certain patience that I don’t have. This is why I end up dying the most. But regardless, I thought I did alright for being sleep deprived from a red-eye and having just picked up the game that day. The UGO booth had their big van set up with mini tournaments all day long where they gave out cool things like mp3 players and PSPs. Pretty sweet prizes for a tourney open to anyone! Here’s a screenshot of me playing, courtesy of 2old2kwit. And just a note, I was also told that graphics were “toned down” on multiplayer for online lag purposes. So what you’re seeing is “toned down”. hah.

If you don’t get a chance to grab a copy of the game when it releases (TOMORROW!!!), word on the street is that there will a downloadable single player demo on XBOX 360 sometime this week and a multiplayer one to follow. yay!
So besides just playing GRAW, I met lots of cool people - both from our forums and random cosplayers at the con. It’s funny because when I arrived on Saturday and asked how Friday’s events went, the guys at the booth told me that there was this girl in a dress who was kicking total ass at GRAW. But on closer inspection, it was actually a DUDE in a dress! woah. I wish I had been there! I didn’t even think about that again until later in the afternoon, I saw a strange boyish Sailor Moon cosplayer. It was definitely the guy from yesterday. I had to find out what this was about, so I asked him what was up with his outfit. He said that he had found an ad through craiglist looking for people to work at a cosplay booth. And since a job is a job, they put him in this costume and made him walk around the con like that. He said he didn’t care cuz it wasn’t like anyone he knew was going to see him. Well, I’m really glad he let me take a picture of him. It almost gives new meaning to “girls who kick ass at games”.
