WCG was a blast. I spent most of the 4 days on Brothers in Arms (a great FPS/tactical WWII game), Far Cry (think big guns on a beautiful tropical island), and Prince of Persia 2 (way more bloody and dark than the first one with even more killer moves). Even though I was on these great games, I was totally itching to get out and see all the other cool stuff at WCG. Luckily, I did.
I got to catch the final round of the Halo tourney - USA vs. Canada. USA won of course, but either way it was awesome seeing such skilled Halo players. The last level was Battlecreek. There were definitely a lot of amazing sniper shots and moves that I had never seen before. And yes, I made a lot of mental notes for the next time I play my friends. hehe. I also caught a later round of Starcraft where Korea won and the Korean guys in the stands jumped up and took off their shirts and started yelling - pretty crazy.. Some of those CS rounds were pretty intense, too. Watching all these awesome hardcore gamers brought gaming to a whole new perspective for me.
But I have to say the highlight of the entire weekend was playing Star Wars Battlefront. It was hard enough that I had to watch all these people play right next to us while we were demo-ing games and I couldn’t even play myself. But finally, during the last half hour of the WCG, I moseyed my way over to the nVidia booth, waited for the seat and finally got to play. Just then, the nVidia guy announced that this was the final round of the tournament. huh? what tournament? I had never even played the game on a PC! Anyways, it was an AOTC level - the scene where Obi-wan and Jango Fett fight in the rain (I really wanted to play on Hoth or Endor, but oh well). In the end, the empire was defeated and “Victory” flashed on my screen. I went up with my team for the prize and the dude brought out these backpacks that he said has $500 worth of prizes in it! And when he told us that we were all getting GeForce 6800 cards, I just start screaming “NO WAY!!! SWEET!!” I was so stoked and I felt like I had just won the lottery… Needless to say, I went home with a big smile on my face.
