With all the Rainbow Six: Vegas practice that we had been doing for the Royal Flush series and then the CPL tournament, I was honestly glad to take a break from RS:V. Don’t get me wrong, RS:V is a super solid and a really fun multiplayer game, but once in a while, a girl needs a break! So when it was time to decide what to play next, I turned to another great shooter – Gears of War.
I immediately took a liking to the game when it first came out in November ‘06, but barely played it due to my busy schedule. And like many games, I didn’t just want to play with strangers. No offense, but anyone who has played on Xbox Live knows that you can meet some very “interesting” folks on there. So you can understand my excitement when I discovered that people I knew here and there were also playing GoW!
We all decided to hook up online and, over the past month, have established a regular “crew” of Gears players. I’ve found that every other activity that I used to do on weeknights just doesn’t compare. What’s best is that the group is really mixed – there’s a married couple, some college friends, some family friends and even church friends. I admit, I’m not the best at this game – I’m super slow at sniping, rush in way too fast, always accidentally “hug” the walls, and suck at using the Hammer of Dawn. But even with my competitive nature, I’ve been having a blast. It really is true that no matter how great a game is, it’s always more fun with friends, even when they’re curb-stomping you.
