Do you ever catch yourself saying things like “When I was your age, we only had 8-bit pixelated graphics!” or “When I was your age, we only had TWO buttons on the controller!” Well, during the past few days, I found myself thinking exactly along these lines.
The destination was Ann Arbor, Michigan where the very first CyGamz was opening. Calyber and I couldn’t wait to see this place that claimed to bring “gaming to the max”. We walked into your typical megaplex movie theater, which was a bit odd at first since I had no idea we were going to a movie theater (I literally had to double check with the taxi driver to make sure we were in the right place)! But once further inside, we discovered that an entire area had been dedicated to gaming. We drooled over the 42” plasma TVs paired with the many 360s, the Alienware PCs, and what seemed like rows and rows of flat screen monitors and leather chairs.
This was definitely unlike any other gaming center I had ever seen. Pairing up gaming with movies totally started to make sense to me. I mean, not every average teenager can afford the latest and greatest hardware, so why not build a place that can provide it for a reasonable hourly price? In my day, I used to just watch a movie and play arcade games like Marvel vs. Xmen, DDR, or Dragon’s Lair! With a place like this, now I could literally have a post-movie LAN party without the hassle of bringing my PC or 360 over to a friend’s house. Plus forget about buying games with Cygamz’s (or Cygamz’) giant library. And the best part? Next time you give your friend that head shot, he/she can’t use the “Oh, I was in the other room” excuse. Ultimately, having CyGamz at a movie theater could make this place a fun filled destination for families. Aw, isn’t that nice? Here’s a little news clip that expanded a little more on the topic.
Well, our time there was short, but despite flying a red-eye and traveling about 12 hours to get there, we remained undefeated the entire day on GRAW and Gears of War (unfortunately, we couldn’t play RSV). Props to some fun guys we met that day who stuck around even though they lost the entire day.
And now I present the new Frag Doll Couch!
