Ask a Doll!

With Halo 3 coming to a close, how important for the future of video games is a new IP to push development and design to the next step?

Halo will definitely be a tough series to follow and I can sense that there will be a lot of pressure for Bungie to come up with something completely new and innovative. I think Bungie has a lot of talented people working there and from what we’ve seen them do in Halo 1-3, it seems like they are always pushing the envelope. Competitors were always striving to make the “next Halo 2” and it will be exciting to see if their new IP will still be one step ahead.

What do you think happened to Ken Kutaragi? I mean, going from being the “father of Playstation” to this?

Honestly, it’s a bit sad to see what happened to Kutaragi. The original PS came out at just the right time, which was probably why it was so successful. Looking back, the PS easily dominated the console world with it’s great graphics and lots of successful titles. But compared to the PS3, which has had to compete with the 360 and Wii, I can imagine how hard it would be to win the console wars. I don’t know exactly what happened, but it feels like Kutaragi was blamed for the PS3 sales and hence was demoted like he was.

For those who aren’t familiar with the rise and fall of Ken Kutaragi, you can read about it here.

What do you think the next Next-Gen consoles’ features are going to be and what kind of awesomeness are they going to have?

That’s really hard to say, but I’ll try my best. I imagine some ultra-portable machine that comes with it’s own pair of glasses or geeky goggles where you’ll be able to see your games through that. You won’t even need a TV anymore. Everything would be wireless and online gaming and LAN parties would be a cinch. You would probably be able to do some file sharing through your console too. Oh, and it would dispense snacks and drinks for me with a push of a button.

Has the game Demonik been cancelled or is it still coming out?

I did you a favor and googled this for you. IGN.com states:

“Unfortunately for the game’s makers, the title was cancelled in production due to financial difficulties facing the publisher.”

Sorry to hear that. We could always use another great horror game.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? Where do you see the gaming industry in ten years?

I feel like I’m stating the obvious here, but I’ll say it anyways. The gaming industry is growing and it’s just going to keep on growing. With so many different types of games being launched, especially casual ones, gaming is just going to keep expanding. Gaming will become as normal as going to the movies - it’ll just be something that people do; as with a lot of things, it will just get bigger and better.

As for myself, I have no idea where I’ll be. I’ve never been the type who sets goals for myself (is that bad?) and am more of a “go with the flow” kind of person. I do hope though that I’ll be doing something I enjoy and am passionate about. I will most likely be doing something in the technical or gaming world since that’s what my background is, but I could also see myself going into something completely different such as dog training or fashion.

If you could own ONE weapon or item from ONE specific game (any genre...FPS, RPG, etc.) in real life - with all the inherent powers and benefits of said weapon or item - which one would it be, and why?

Are Pikmins weapons? If so, I wouldn’t mind having an entourage of those too.

I would want Cloud’s sword from Final Fantasy VII for 3 simple reasons - BIG A$$ SWORD.
