A Happy Fangirl
Nov 03, 8:09 am

reading is funKatscratch said some very happy words to me the other day. She mentioned that Wizard magazine had just published a big gamer story in their latest issue and that we had a side bar all to ourselves. My first thoughts were utter disbelief. Was she talking about the same Wizard that I read during the time Superman died and Bane broke Batman’s back ? The same Wizard that I used to subscribe to in order to see if any of my Spawn #10 when up in value? Not really realizing that it could actually be possible that we were in THAT Wizard magazine, I then proceeeded to do a web search on any other Wizard mags out there. Ok, there were none. I told Katscratch that I was going to faint if it were really that Wizard magazine I was thinking of. Wow, could it be that we were in the Cosmo and Sports Illustratedof comic books? She said to me, “Well, plan to faint.”

I was already counting the minutes till I was able to run to my local comic book store and pick up the issue. This magazine was my comic book staple. I even participated in their annual scavenger hunt and got 4th place one year. Ah, good times. Anyhow, when I finally got there, I practically sprinted to the back where the sign said “Magazines”. And even though it’s a total comic book boo-boo to open the magazine bag in the store, I was so anxious that I ripped open the bag and started flipping through the issue. Nothing! She had said the November issue, but I think she actually meant the latest issue, which was the December one. Oh well, I guess I was buying that copy I just opened! Good thing there was a sample December issue on the shelf, cuz right in the table of contents was that “video game special” section. SWEET! I grabbed myself a bagged copy and headed to the cashier. Unfortunately, I started talking to the guy at the counter about some of my favorite comic artists and stuff they were working on. I admit, I’m totally out of the loop nowadays in the comic world, which is why 5 minutes later, I was buying $42 in comic books.

neatoFunny thing though, mid-payment, the counter guy pointed a knowing finger at me and asked, “Hey, didn’t I...” “Oh no,” I thought. “I’m in a ‘geek’ store, he probably knows I’m a Frag Doll! Maybe he recognized me from Wizard!” But instead of ending his sentence with “...didn’t I see you in the latest Wizard?”, he said “...didn’t I used to see you in our other store up north?” lol. He remembered that I was a regular subscribing customer eons ago and that I went off to school and stopped going to the store as much. I’m not sure if I was relieved or what - or maybe bothered that I still looked the same as I did when I was 14, but whatever. I was just happy to grab my comics and go. I couldn’t wait to get home and check out page 80!!
