Girls, Chocolate, and Rock&Roll
Nov 27, 2:23 am

I could talk about Thanksgiving, how rad it was, and how much I love to see family and friends, but I’m not gonna.  Instead, this blog will be short, sweet, and rockin.  During this month of November I have made a number of observations (primarily about myself) that have led me to two earth shattering realizations.

Earth Shattering Realization #1:  GIRLS LOVE ROCK AND ROLL

I don’t have pictures yet to document just what I mean, but it’s safe to say that Guitar Hero has changed the way I look at rhythm games.  I’ll admit that I’ve never really been a fan of DDR.  I know, *gasp*, I need to live a little, but I just haven’t found the motivation to humiliate myself by stomping around in the halted and painfully uncoordinated “dance” that all DDR n00bs are doomed to do.  Watching the pros is always fun, but in general I keep a healthy distance from the game.

My life was changed one Friday evening when myself and several coworkers were still hanging around the office.  Guitar Hero had been setup in one corner of my floor and there had been a small crowd around it for most of the day.  My aversion to this genre of game had kept me firmly in my seat ignoring the hubbub being caused by these plastic guitar peripherals, but that was only until my boss starting boasting (around the office AND through email) that our group could take on another group on our floor.  I was hesitant at first, but then the hilarious trash-talking ensued (as was inevitable with such a ripe comedic situation) so I had to get involved.  I picked up the game on the way home from work.

In the two weeks that I’ve had this game, I have gotten 65% through the set list on Hard, beat the Medium campaign while showing it to friends, and have managed to spark interest even in my parents.  My Thanksgiving began when I strolled through the door hefting my plastic SG and PS2.  Everyone got to play, everyone loved it, and I loved it most of all.  I’m still working on my fret board/button technique, but I’m envisioning the day when I can rival the stylistic genius of the current DDR masters we see in arcades.  Just imagine me doing this, but with a slightly more tangible guitar-thing to rock out on, and some power chords that take some actual hand-eye coordination to rip.

Earth Shattering Realization #2:  CHOCOLATE MAKES GIRLS CRAZY

And not just crazy, but like CRAZAY!  I have scientific proof -->

I rest my case.

Footnote a1: those pictures were taken in a decent, self-respecting establishment in Montreal that specializes in chocolate.  This cafe does hot chocolate like wine, listing “vintages” with descriptions like “bitter with cherry wood undertones...”.  We all got some hot chocolate, dallied with a giant banana split sundae, and dabbled with the fondue.  Literally.

Footnote a2: We thoroughly traumatized the decent, self-respecting patrons that witnessed our chocolate induced shenanigans.
