While I was doing an interview at Comic Con 08 in New York City, I was asked “which game do you think is better, Call of Duty 4 or Rainbow Six Vegas 2?” I wish I could have given a more in-depth answer than I did. To make up for it, I decided to write a blog comparing and contrasting both games. I’m not going to choose which one is better because I believe that they are both solid games that I enjoy playing (even though I tend to play Rainbow Six Vegas 2 a lot more).
Call of Duty 4 is not only a fun multiplayer game, but it looks beautiful! If you were not taken back by the graphics of this game then it must take a lot to please you. The movement of the game is very rapid and I would consider it run-n-gun. Even if you’re a sniper, you have to make sure to watch your back and constantly move in order to avoid enemies coming back from spawning to take you out. There are several game modes to play, and the game even allows you to create your own class (weapon kit). The thing about this game is that one or two people on a team can sometimes carry their team if they are good enough. The perk system is very nifty, but some I can do without (darn you martyrdom n00bs). The maps vary in this game and the shooting system is very easy to pick up.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is quite an improvement from part one. There are new weapons, an awesome sprint feature which speeds up the movement of the game, and there are new maps that are a good size for 4v4 or more game play. I absolutely love how the A.C.E.S. system works, and hearing that little trumpet go of after I have accomplished a cool shot is very satisfying. The shooting system in R6V2 is a bit more hardcore than other first person shooters. With a wide range of weapons, knowing how to burst fire at different distances is vital. It’s one shot one kill on this game which can be quite a challenge.
In my opinion, Rainbow six Vegas 2 is more of a tactical shooter than Call of Duty 4 because it’s more SWAT style. Rainbow Six requires a lot of in sync team work, whereas Call of Duty is played extra aggressively and is more flexible when it comes to team work. Grenades are different in both of these games. In Rainbow Six Vegas 2 there are two sets of grenades to choose from - frags which are more powerful but take longer to explode, and incendiaries which blow up fast but have a smaller blast radius. Call of Duty 4 gives you the option of having 1 or 3 grenades depending on what perks are enabled, and the player is able to “cook” their grenades.
These are just a few to mention but it is certain that are both solid next generation shooters.
Now I am going to get on Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and kick some booty!
