Last weekend, I made plans with one of my good friends Quiksilver to go to a LAN center in the city (if you lived in New York City, you would refer to Manhattan as the city). Previously, the only LAN center I had attended was Web 2 Zone, which was great but mostly for PC gamers. I like PC games but I mostly play console. Although Web 2 Zone had a “console area,” a TV or two with some old Xbox controllers does not cut it for me (unless they have upgraded since the last time I was there). Anyway, after hearing about NYC LAN, a strictly-console LAN center, I jumped at the chance to check it out. NYC LAN is in the heart of lower Manhattan, which means it’s close to everything!
As I was walking out of the train station to get there, I was anxious to see what the set up looked like. I was also anxious to get inside because it was FREAKING COLD OUTSIDE!! However, once I saw where it was, I began to jump for joy inside. Right as I entered the LAN center I saw 8 TVs - 4 on one side of the room and 4 on the other side. The game of choice at the time was Gear of War. As I walked further into the LAN center, I went into the back room where there were other consoles set up. They had a huge flat-screen running the Playstation 3, a TV with the Wii, one TV running Guitar Hero 2 with 2 guitars, another TV hooked up to an Xbox, and another with a good ol’ Gamecube.
This place is really amazing! It must be the first like it in New York City (from what I know). I got to play some Gears of War against other gamers, rock out on Guitar Hero 2, and talk to some familiar faces like Vegetto from MLG. NYC LAN left a lasting impression on me and I’m planning on returning in the near future. Finally, a place to LAN in my neighborhood!
Game on!!
