Isn’t it strange how some things remind you of a person, place, thing or even a point in time? No matter what, everyone associates one thing with another even if they don’t mean to. The smell of a certain perfume or cologne reminds you of your ex or your best friend. A certain movie reminds you of the old apartment or house you watched it in. Sometimes it’s a good memory or thought that is brought up, other times it can be bad; recently, I’ve noticed that I have made several associations with a few of my video games. Each time I pick up or play an old game, I get flashbacks and a feeling of the past - thankfully, most of them are good.
Here are somethings that my fave games remind me of:
Legend of Zelda: Reminds me of the Dominican Republic and was the turning point in my gaming career. This was the beginning of me becoming a hardcore gamer.
New Super Mario Bros.: Reminds me of my sister; she loves the game and whoops booty in it!
Dance Dance Revolution: Reminds me of Coney Island. All the great DDR players go there to show off their stuff. Its awesome seeing crowds form while playing.
GRAW: Reminds me of playing with Hammer and Anvil. I had soo much fun playing with these guys and the constant laughter and fun in game. It also reminds me of the Casting Call and competing to be a Frag Doll. I was so scared but I knew I had to do my best.
Perfect Dark (64 version): Reminds me of the first time i became competitive at an FPS. This is when i realized I hated losing, especially to my cousin who swore he could beat me at every game (every family has one of these).
Mario Party: Reminds me of playing at my cousin Joel’s house. We would spend hours in his tiny room playing this game and yelling while playing. Every once in a while an adult would come in and tell us to be quiet but we would be loud again. It was great!
SOCOM: Reminds me of my ex-boyfriend Quiksilver, who got me into gaming. I told him he was a loser for playing games until he let me try - after that, me called me a loser for playing more than him. This game was also one of the first FPS games in which I had a clan that was truly unstoppable (PMS woot woot)!
So my question to the gamers out there is what are you gamer associations? what are the games that are linked to a certain person, place or event.
Game on!
