Recently the Frag Dolls’ Rainbow Six Vegas 2 team, which consists of myself, Brookelyn, Valkyrie, and Pyra, have been gaming like mad to get ready for the MLG tournament coming up. The thing about being a Frag Doll is that we have to balance gaming, traveling and other non-gaming endeavors. But for being such busy bees scattered across the United States, we do pretty well.
The most important thing that we’ve been working on in the game is our communication and being able to basically know where everyone is at all times. When we get to that level of peak awareness, we won’t have to communicate as much because we’ll know what to do and when to do it. It’s a sort of mental synchrony that teams get when they mesh well together and cooperate to accomplish optimal play. This is easier said than done.
One issue I’ve been working on is being aware of where my teammates are. I’m usually pretty good at this, but every once in a while I accidentally throw grenades where a teammate might be. Even some of the best players do this, but it can really make or break some rounds during matches. Another issue that I’m working on is evaluating my environment when moving forward towards enemy territory. Sometimes, I get so hyped in getting the objective done that I begin to get a sort of tunnel vision which makes me play narrowly. Instead of clearing an area than going for the goal, I begin to think of getting the objective done right away. I’m really working on improving in these areas.
The good thing about my playing style is that I know what my issues are and this makes it easier to fix them. It’s all a matter of breaking my bad habits, which is quite a process. In a sense, this is how gaming is similar to sports or other physical activities. There is always a way to improve yourself, even if you’re the best player. I consider myself talented in R6V2, but I always find ways to get better.
Don’t let this blog fool you; I can skill-kick over 90% of gamers’ butts. Boo yah! MLG San Diego is coming upon us fast – June 13-15! Besides the competition, we’re also going to be there demoing HAWX and giving away some awesome Seagate hard drives. Make sure to stop by the GameStop booth on June 13th and 14th to check it out! And if you need any tips for playing R6V2, I’m always happy to help.
Game on!
