Working from home, I spend countless hours in front of a computer screen daily. This often leaves my eyes feeling fatigued and dehydrated, like they are going to shrivel up and fall out of my eye sockets! GUNNAR says that their glasses reduce fatigue and eye strain by using advanced design and lens technology, so I decided to try out a pair and see if they lived up to this claim!

Gunnar glasses have lenses that are designed using their fRACTYL technology, to create a microclimate that traps humidity and blocks out evaporative air currents.  This, in turn, works to alleviate the effects of “dry eye”.  The iONik lens tint is said to enhance contrast for a sharper viewing experience and the I-FI lens coating reduces glare and reflective light. 

When I picked up the Gunnar PPK glasses, immediately I noticed how light weight they are.  The frame design makes them very stylish and comfortable to wear. At first, my eyes were not very receptive to the PPK’s amber tint and the slight magnification. It took my eyes around 20 minutes to adjust to the change but once they had some time to adjust…BAM talk about a difference!  After that initial adjustment time, my eyes instantly started to feel the relief. “NO MORE DRY EYES with Gunnars around your eyes” - Ben Stein (Cleareye’s spokesman)

While I was impressed with the instant results, I really became a believer after a couple of days of use.  Spending the usual time in front of my computer, I had little to no eye fatigue and my eyes didn’t burn or feel dry at all.  The glare from my monitor was significantly reduced and the contrast was enhanced, which reduced the need for my eyes to constantly focus.

Gunnar glasses work great for activities other than daily computing as well.  For gaming, the enhanced clarity you experience while wearing the glasses will allow you to pick up on important in-game objects.  You also see a difference in the colors, as it made everything more vivid and it gave the colors some “pop”.  My overall gaming experience improved once I started using my Gunnars!

I also tested the glasses while watching television, to see the effect it would have in a home media situation.  Again, I could see a difference in clarity with the glasses on but the yellow tint from the lenses did alter the colors slightly.  While the color change is noticeable, I did adjust to it and was happy knowing my eyes were being protected.

There isn’t much negative to say about the Gunnar PPK glasses.  The transition time for your eyes to adjust is a little annoying and you may want to give up on the glasses at first.  My advice is to stick with them because you will not be disappointed!  Some may think that the price may be a little steep as they start in the $80 range, but if you are like most American’s and spend a lot of your time staring at some monitor or another, it is certainly justifiable. After trying Gunnar PPK glasses myself, I know they are worth every penny!

The Gunnar glasses lived up to everything that Gunnar claimed.  The headaches that I used to experience after a couple of hours in front of a computer monitor are gone.  My eyes are not dried out and fatigued after long gaming sessions.  The Edge glasses have definitely made my eyes happy again!  They are extremely durable, well built, light weight, and comfortable, which allows you to wear them for hours with no problems.
