Sleek, no, powerful—hell yeah! While in San Francisco this week for a Nintendo press event I heard the most amazing news. I would be receiving my Dell XPS while in town! I was elated for so many reasons; the first being that I got mine before Cella, and my gloat power was at x10! Woot! Secondly, but no less important, I could send in my other laptop to be repaired. My dog’s tail is like a battering ram and broke my screen in a 3 different places, two of which are palm sized black spots on my screen. But I could not be without a laptop for the three week repair time, so I just coped until this beauty came in. Last, but most certainly not least, the sheer joy and greatness of the XPS. I have only just begun to delve into the depths of this machine and I’m already highly impressed.
The only drawback I was anticipating was the weight of the laptop, which pleasantly turned out to not be that bad. I’m used to carrying around my previous laptop and 360 on my back when I travel, and surprisingly, the XPS has not felt anymore of a burden in weight. The huge screen, along with crisp graphics and long battery life, coupled with speed and cool exterior lights make this one hell of a laptop.
I could go on about the XPS for oh… I dunno, years… but I would be doing this great weekend an injustice if I didn’t include some tales of the event as well. Jam Sessions was what I was originally going to demo, but plans changed and I ended up on Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 for the Wii instead. The first few events I have done with the Frag Dolls have mostly been demonstrating FPS’s, such as Haze and Rainbow Six: Vegas. While there are absolutely no complaints on that front (I’m a huge shooter fangirl), I would definitely send jealous longing gazes at the Raving Rabbids 2 game because, well, it looks so darn fun!
The first day I wasn’t sure what to expect as this was the first event I had worked without being paired up with someone. Lucky for me this was a very exclusive press event so the traffic was not too heavy or hectic. I guess I’m not the only one who takes one glance at this game and feels the itch to wash dirty laundry or play in the office without getting caught by the boss rabbit. Press members and Nintendo staff were frequent visitors in my area. I thought for sure after eight hours straight of playing something simple, like Rayman, I would be driven mad. Instead, I found my arms and shoulders sore from playing so much! On the second day, I was almost sad that the event was a half-day but all good things come to an end, I suppose.
My weekend also included participating in Frag Doll Friday at the Ubisoft office! After the event was over on Friday evening, I had some lunch, snagged a cab and rode up to the office to meet with Jinx and Seppuku. After completing my first and most important task of acquiring my XPS, I headed upstairs to a dark cold media room complete with large flat screen TVs, Xbox360s, and cookies. The event was great fun and it was made even better by the slumber party atmosphere. Thanks again to Emily, Ashley, Cella, and all the community members who came out to play. I had a blast!
