I got a first-hand look at the many faces of Jam Sessions last weekend. This was the beginning of three band events, where I got to demo to people who fall outside the usual convention-going-man-boy crowd. I was surprised to see how many girls were eager (more than the boys!) to try out the game. My favorite thing to see is little girls playing on there DS’s. I’m pretty sure Rhou loves that too… in fact, I think there’s something heartwarming about seeing little girls active in gaming. I don’t know if I could tell you exactly what it is; whether it’s the hope they will continue being gamers, or that we all see something of ourselves in their faces. Probably both.

I think one of the other amazing things I noticed was the emergence of something I now call the “DS face”. The most popular trend is mouth open, neck cocked, and expressions of shock.

Girls always have an amazing instinct to know when they are being observed and they act accordingly (cutting my studies short - hee hee!).

I had no idea what to expect from this event. Surprisingly, I found that more girls than ever were picking up games, and they were even familiar with the new titles. I now have a refreshed outlook on getting girls involved in gaming. A renewed hope that in some small way I, along with my amazing sisters in gaming, will be an influence. The future is now brighter then ever for girl gamers.
