What I Really Am
Oct 29, 6:19 am

I just got back from the Radio Music Awards and I’m trying to decompress.  The whole thing was surreal and it’s difficult to wrap my head around the idea that it happened, I did all this amazing stuff, and now I’m home to resume my normal life.  There were so many firsts for me in Vegas: my first alcoholic party, my first sushi, and my first experience almost bowling a rock star over in a fangirlish outburst.

It’s true.  I didn’t think I was capable of it, but I let out a fangirl squeal for the Nickelback singer.  Of all the celebrities there, I was the most star-struck seeing him because I love Nickelback’s music.  It’s awesome to see rap stars all blinged out, and Paris Hilton with her 20-person entourage, but seeing someone whose music I appreciate so much was just incredible.  As soon as I saw him I decided I’d be happy if I could just get a picture with him.  We were making the rounds doing interviews with our friend DMC, though, so there was no time to talk to him.  By the time we were finished, he had disappeared.  I was understandably disappointed.

Later on, though, as we were leaving the celebrity lounge, I ran back for something I had forgotten.  As I came out, the girls pointed behind me, so I turned and looked.  There was Chad Kroeger and his people, walking towards the lounge.  That’s when I let out my fangirl shriek.  It wasn’t a *real* shriek, more like a loud gasp, but it was as close as someone with my decidedly tomboyish tendencies can get.

To top it off, I then did a sort of skippy leap and ran up to him to ask if I could get a picture with him.  In spite of his being a foot or so taller than me, he still looked mildly terrified by the spectacle I’d just made, and agreed before I did him serious harm.  One of our group then snapped a quick picture, with me sporting a delirious grin.  Then I released the poor singer and politely said “thank you” and mentioned how I’d been waiting for that all day.  He said it was nice to meet me.  Aww.  He was so well-mannered in the face of danger.

I didn’t see him again after that… not up close, anyway.  He and his band presented an award at the Radio Music Awards that night, and they were up for a few awards themselves.  I was disappointed they didn’t win.  They should have.  I don’t get fangirly over just anyone.
