Last week a few of us had the opportunity to fly to LA to make an appearance on G4’s “The Screensavers.” I know it was a dream come true for Valkyrie, who loves the channel, and for the rest of us as well. Since G4 and TechTV merged, it’s really the only channel that caters to gamers, so being invited on one of their biggest shows was an amazing opportunity.
I think one of the funnest parts was watching Valkyrie go fangirl on Tina and Laurie, who we were fortunate enough to get a picture with.
Adam Sessler also dropped by our green room (yay!we had our own green room, celebrity style!) for a photo op and a chat. He even left us with signed copies of an X-Play book. Score! What can I say? I love loot.
It’s really cool to meet TV personalities like that, and learn that they’re actually really nice people. I always wonder if celebrities are super stuck-up, so I was pleased to learn that gamer celebrities definitely aren’t. The number of show hosts who came by to wish us luck was staggering, and a little humbling as well. It’s crazy to think that all these people know who we are. I’m excited and intimidated by it all at once.
The show itself was pretty fun. In keeping with the geeky-celebrity style, both the Kevins were down-to-earth and really nice to us. Even when we brutalized Kevin Rose in Ghost Recon 2, he kept his cool and complemented us on a good game. Serves him right for saying *on the air* that he thought he could take us! Later on he apologized for doubting whether we were all really gamers. Frag Dolls score +1!
Yeah, he was nice. Shame on us for pulling a prank on him during the commercial break.
I guess it’s a company-wide prank war, and it involves clothes pins. Don’t ask me why. I never learned the particulars. But that certainly didn’t stop us from joining in on the fun. We were having a good time while we were there, and pranking a celebrity is just our style of fun.
Rhoulette, being the sneaky Samantha Fisher that she is, (literally) stealthed up behind him during commercial break and attached no less than *three* clothes pins to the back of his shirt. How he didn’t feel that is beyond me, but nevertheless it was a source of great amusement for us, the crew, and everyone else in the studio. Luckily for Kevin, a sympathetic assistant removed the offending clips before the show came back from break. I wonder what the viewing audience would have thought of them. The world will never know.
He knew it was us, of course. I imagine our laughing over his dumbfounded look had something to do with that, but oh well. For that kind of record, we want the credit anyway!
