Things We Miss Growing Up

“This is the song that never ends; yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it, not knowing what it was, and they’ll continue singing it forever just because...This is the song that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it, not knowing what it was, and they’ll continue singing it forever just because...”

Now most of you should know where this song came from, Lamb Chops Play Along! I was thinking this week and I remembered all the things I missed from my childhood. I know everyone had their own childhood but there are just some things that are universal for an age group, some things that everyone knows. Of course I had my favorites but so did everyone else.

As for me it was this show and a few others that was my entertainment, such as Bill Nye: The Science Guy, Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego, Reading Rainbow, The Original Power Rangers, Thomas and Friends and one of my favorites, Mister Rogers Neighborhood.  Yes, you know what I’m talking about, you watched too, be honest.  They were the shows I would look forward to waking up extra early on Saturday morning or to just go home after school and watch because the simple shows are the ones which entertained me. And if these weren’t your shows to remember…don’t judge me, I’m only 22!…LOL.

Another childhood memory I have is of course the toys! So many of the toys from when I was a kid have changed so much in just the past 20 to 30 years, such as the Bionicles/Legos, the all metal Tonka Trucks, and especially the Barbie. I am also jealous at the same time seeing the all new updated toys and what they do now. It makes me want to be a kid again and play with the cool toys that are out now. It is amazing all the new features and functions that are found on toys of the present.

I remember my mom telling me about toys she had when she was younger, cough…. in the 50’s.  She always told me about a toy that required you to push a lever and it would say “M is for Moo”, that’s all it did. Now they have kid learning laptops that can tell you where moo came from, the specifics of a cow, what cows do, where cows are, how many types of cows there are, etc. It’s amazing!

No matter what the cool toys are that come out in the future, I’ll always remember my favorite toy that I loved the most, my orange haired clown, Binky! What was your favorite toy or show when you were younger?
