Fun in the hills
Aug 04, 10:00 am

Being completely random and getting ready for the upcoming events, I decided to spend some time with the boyfriend and best friend (still here from Oregon) in Boone, NC to relax. Boone, home of Appalachian State Mountaineers, is a small mountain college town with plenty of tourist attractions and beautiful places.

Boone, NC is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours away from where I live, (Road Trip!) so of course we packed the snacks and drinks for the day, Yummy Jerky…J. When we got there we decided to go and check out all the little shops on King St., from hippie book stores and beads to antique consignment. We definitely looked like tourists with a camera around our necks and walking around like kids in a candy shop but we didn’t care, we were having fun. The huge antique consignment shop had all kinds of stuff from old comics, muskets from the civil war and even shot glasses from all over the country.  So with all this cool stuff Ashley, a smoker, had to find a pack of Camel cigarettes from like the 40’s which she “Had to have”. All of the little shops reminded me of home (Florence, Oregon) which made me happy and home sick all at the same time.

Afterwards we headed out to go hiking on a trail which eventually led us to some areas which are local favorites called Hebron Rocks, Trash Can Falls and Snake Pit. This trail, that wasn’t exactly a trail, actually was a creek bed we had to follow for about 15-20 minutes to get to where we were going, which made the hiking more fun and challenging. Hebron Rocks, our first destination was a series of these giant boulders that you had to jump from one to another to reach our destination. The best description of it was that it was like a huge waterfall of giant boulders. So my best friend and I, thinking better of it later, decided to make it a kind of a work out/race to get to the top. Once we got to the top we were completely exhausted. You know when you really push yourself in a gym and you just know that you won’t be able to get up the next morning, yeah, welcome to my world. In the end the scenery was soooooo worth it though.

After all the climbing and the trails it was time to go home. Tired, worn out, and ready to sleep after a long day we put in The Comebacks and promptly fell asleep. If any of you are near the area anytime and you would like to see some beautiful scenery and cool shops I highly recommend Boone, NC.
