When the Rainbow Six Vegas tournament at CPL began, we knew our first opponents were not very experienced.  The experienced teams were sitting behind us, watching our screens to learn our strategies.  We were conscious of this and took appropriate action.  Vault was chosen and we elected Alpha spawn to give the impression that we preferred it.  (We’re so tricky!) “Don’t do anything you normally do,” Valkyrie warned as we rushed into the Vault and hallways towards our enemy.  I tossed a grenade at the door near the soda machine, and scored a triple kill.  Voices and applause erupted behind me.

The tournament progressed and we did not lose a single match.  The team we were apprehensive about playing was ‘The Unknown.’ They had remained undefeated in the Rainbow Six Vegas Team Compete tournament and were flown in to compete at CPL.  We played and watched match after match, until at last, around midnight, we made it to the finals against ‘The Unknown.’

The first match was about to begin.  The non-referee-looking referee flipped his quarter up in the air glancing down at me as I yelled, “Tails!” The quarter did a bagoogle flips, landed solid in the ref’s palm and flipped to reveal…tails!  Yessssss!  I was given the option to either have my choice of spawn and host or the option to choose which map we played first.  After some brief discussion with my teammates we decided to choose the map; we chose Vault.  And what do you know, our trickiness from earlier paid off; ‘The Unknown’ chose Alpha spawn.

We dispersed to our playing areas and prepared for the battle.  Teeth clenched, controller in hand, the match began.  I changed my bullet rate to automatic and charged towards the Vault with grenades and bullets flying past my head.  Our teamwork was at its finest, as we yelled out enemy positions and racked up the kills.  My cheeks burned and my heart pounded as I blasted my opponents with shotgun rounds.  In the end, we won both matches, so there was no need to play a third game. 

CPL was an incredible event.  I’m so glad that I got to experience it and take the R6V tournament with the best teammates ever.  Psyche, Valkyrie and Seppuku, you girls rocked it!
