Stepping out of the black Escalade we were bombarded by an aggressive swarm wielding cameras and shouting questions: The Paparazzi. Talk about adrenaline. I would put this right up there with cliff jumping and playing in video game tournaments. It was intense, but I felt safe with the big bodyguard-type guy making sure the Paparazzi didn’t step over any boundaries or crowd us too much so we could walk from the car to the restaurant. I was asked to coach Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, the two reality TV stars from the show The Hills, while in Los Angeles for E3. I was happy to find that they were a couple of extremely down to earth people.
Spencer kicks it old school with Halo: Combat Evolved, so I felt an immediate video game connection with him. He wants to get Heidi into gaming more, so I whipped out the DS during lunch on Wednesday and showed her a few games. She was really into PictoChat… speaking of which, I’m really anticipating PAX this year, where demos in the main theater room become mass PictoChat sessions of drawing dirty pictures. Hahaaha!
Anyway, after lunch we headed over to E3 where we played the new Rayman Raving Rabbids 3. Of the 50 mini games in Rabbids 3, a bunch use the Wii Balance Board. You can literally play the game with your butt. There’s this sledding type game where you’re riding the belly of a bull and you sit on the Balance Board and lean left or right to steer yourself down the snowy mountain. It’s so fun! Heidi seemed to really get into it, which was pretty entertaining to watch.
After a bit we made it over to check out Far Cry 2. Spencer didn’t put the controller down the whole time we were in the demo area. You can tell he plays shooters, because he picked the game up and was immediately popping dudes in the face.
It was awesome hanging out with them. Now, I’m off to Comic Con in San Diego! I heard the convention is completely sold out! This is going to be a crazy nerd week. If you’re going to Comic Con, stop by the Ubisoft area and say hi!
