Console War
Oct 05, 11:37 pm

The console war has intrigued me recently. If you had asked me about a month ago who would win the war, I would have matterafactly told you, “Tree-sitty, foo!” It has been a no-brainer for me.  First of all, Microsoft got a jumpstart on the competition by having the 360 for sale almost a year ago. And even though they couldn’t fill the demand right away, they are available everywhere now. There’s also Xbox Live and its proven stability and already firmly established community. Not to mention all the great games and backwards compatibility. But! My opinion is swaying.

Towards the PS3? Not really.  According to a PC magazine article a Blu-Ray Disc Association representative confirmed that Universal Studios has decided not to release titles in the Blue-Ray Disc format.  It seems like Sony has been taking hits here and there, but the fact they dropped the price about a hundred bucks is great news and I’m sure sealed the deal for a lot of people not sure if they were going to get it.

I really think the Nintendo Wii is going to pull ahead in console sales.  If you take a look at the Xbox360 compared to the Xbox you will see a console with better graphics, more power, but still just more of the same. Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, they are each progressively getting better graphic and sound capabilities, but the actual video game experience is basically the same.

The genius of Nintendo comes when they think outside the Xbox and Playstation. The Wii console is an experience, a new interactive canvas, not just for the developers, but for the players. “Playing is believing” and I can testify to that being true.  I’ll admit I was a little skeptical when I first heard about the Wii, but after experiencing it at E3 this year, I am a Nintendo Wii fanboy fangirl. I am certain that anyone who gets a shot at playing the Wii will be hooked.  And with the price as cheap as it is, it’s affordable for a lot more gamers.

I read this super fantastic (long) article that really shines a positive light on how Nintendo is aiming to disrupt the gaming market.  Like retro games? Think Xbox Live Arcade, and multiple it by a ba google… nearly every 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit Nintendo game (and many Sega Genesis games!) on the Virtual Console. Web browser? Check. Something you’ve never seen or experienced before? Double-check. This is the closest we’ve come to virtual reality in gaming! Can you tell I am excited? In fact, I am so excited, I can’t think of a coherent way to end this blog, so ima just drag my face across my keyboard… readysetgowwsdefrtgyhujiofuijtgyhjkl.;[-;[-phjgfv jnk/’lkjmnhgfyiooo;.kj./ddfdsgfvghjhuksasassrtyuio.bvdxcvvbgk,./
