Here Comes The Geek!

Not only am I an enthusiastic gamer, but I am also an actress. I currently play the role of the bride in an interactive improv show called “Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding.” The show is about an Italian wedding where everything goes wrong. I’ve gotten “married” dozens of times already. Ironically, I’ve never had a real-life wedding. My husband and I eloped. Having weddings on the brain made me curious about other people’s nuptials. Knowing gamers to be incredibly creative, I decided to research video game themed weddings!
Some couples choose to dress up in costume for their big day. They even have the wedding party join in the fun:
Katamari Damacy Wedding
Zelda Wedding
Sometimes video games lead to romance. Two couples based their weddings on the games responsible for their union. Desirai and John met online playing Halo and thought it appropriate to have Master Chief marry them. They wore Halo emblems on their wedding attire and named tables after maps in the game. Guests had to fight over the bouquet and garter in a slayer match.
Halo Wedding
World of Warcraft Wedding
Perhaps you have your heart set on a video game themed wedding, but your significant other is less than enthusiastic. There are several ways to incorporate video games into your wedding while still having a traditional ceremony. Video game music is common in gamer weddings with Zelda and Final Fantasy being popular choices. You could make your reception more entertaining by having video game systems available to play. Why not design your wedding cake after your favorite game?
Pacman Cake
Mario Cake
You can even have custom-made cake toppers:
Avatar Topper
Pikachu Topper
One bride and groom used video game themes for table names and escort cards. Each guest was assigned his or her own video game character and given a card with their character details.
Another creative couple designed their wedding invitation in the form of a video game. Guests had to finish the game before they could view the invite.
Video Game Proposals
Many of you have not yet reached the wedding planning stage. If you are still considering how to pop the question, the following scenarios may give you some ideas.
One impressive proposal involved a Super Mario themed room complete with a question mark box. When the girlfriend hit the cube Mario-style, out popped the engagement ring. Fireworks exploded in the backdrop after acceptance.
Another gamer surprised his girlfriend by proposing through the game she was currently playing. He modified Chrono Trigger to include memories the couple shared with a resulting proposal.
Borderlands creator Gearbox made a video for two fans. In the video, Claptrap makes some off-color remarks before popping the question.
The possibilities are endless for incorporating your passion into your special day. What are your ideas?

Avlee and Erandel met playing World of Warcraft. They wed in real life a few years after their characters married in the game. Avlee designed her gown after her character’s wedding dress.
