Game Glitches: The good, the bad, and the funny
Mar 04, 7:00 am

Finding a funny glitch in a game is like finding that cheap plastic toy right at the top of your cereal, no messy digging with nasty fingers. I’m not Indian Jones and that toy does not belong in a museum or the bottom of the fracking cereal. A funny glitch is a nice little surprise, especially if it doesn’t break your game. With that said there are also glitches that do break your game or help your game, but since people tend to chronicle the funny glitches more I’ll stick with those. Also, warning, there is colorful language in some of the videos.
The Good: Advantageous glitches
No doubt we all like money for nothing and our kicks for free, but I’ll be the first to admit if a glitch exists that involves copious amounts of money for the least amount of effort, I’m all in. Sometimes I don’t have hours every day to sit in one game earning money baking pies, making ugly armor, or farming endlessly so I can buy ugly wallpaper for my nonexistent house. I mostly go for the infinite money glitches but there are other glitches that people utilize for things besides money like unlimited ammo and super powers, you know stuff we should be able to pick up at Wal-Mart, Target, or our local wholesale club.
The Bad: Downright game breaking glitches
Sometimes we invest time and effort into a game to be rewarded with frustration, anger, tears, and finally defeated acceptance. Personally, I haven’t experienced a game breaking glitch yet, but I did get trapped hiding on top of a sewer entrance in Thief: The Dark Project. I think that one was my fault for not saving in a good spot. I had a bag of money, a guard was coming and I saw a hole in the ground with stairs leading into the sewer. The stairs didn’t reach all the way down, I couldn’t jump, and I couldn’t enter the sewer. I panicked, OK!
What we’re all here for…..The Funny:
GoldenEye 007 “Dance” Glitch…Because sometimes a spasm is the only option.
“I guess I can only get that drink shaken, right?”
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Hilarity mod
These glitches are actually caused by a custom mod called “Hilarity”, which [SPOILER ALERT] causes all kinds of funny shenanigans. This type of mod will definitely have permanent repercussions to the game, and not just for that poor beggar you turn into a sheep, so you probably shouldn’t save if you decide to mess around with this mod.
Like Frank at the office Christmas party, these people cannot seem to hold their balance.
Add this compilation of hilarity mod spells to your collection. No evening will go to waste once you enjoy some of these classic hits like “Horses Keep Falling on My Head”, “Vertically Challenged Sally”, and “Up, Up, and Away”
The THING faithful teammate glitch:
I loved this game and it freaked me out more than the thought of dying a slow death in a Sarlacc pit. I found some of my most favorite glitches in this game too. After dying once, my body dropped down and all my limbs were contorted, suddenly my character yells, “I need an engineer”. I pretty much couldn’t stop laughing after that. In this particular glitch a dead teammate follows you around and even continues to assist you by shooting enemies and fixing things. Even in death he’s still holding out hope for survival.
“Hey, good news! You’re not infected!”
Red Dead Revolver various funny glitches:
This is the most recent game I’ve played that contained some great glitches. I added my own videos and others I thought were pretty funny, especially some from one guy who had about four funny glitches in one game.
The Flying Horse
“Pfft, Western Pegasus don’t need no wings.”
The Shaking Wagon
“Mr. whatcha standin’ there shaken fer? Ya need a ride or what? My horses are startn tah get jumpy.”
The Shaking Wagon EXTREME
“Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.”
The Cougar-Man
He just wants a friend.
The Bird-People
This is just inspirational.
The Donkey Lady
A little bit of MAC makeup, a new wardrobe, a spiffy hairdo and I think she’ll clean right up. Just don’t ask her any questions.
Gunslinger Dog
Leon the dog needs your help at Fort Mercer!
Left 4 Dead various glitches
This is a great game with a fun multiplayer component that leads to some interesting glitches. Oh, and this one time me and my buddy, Keith, knew this guy who did something funny but I forget what it was, but I remember we laughed about it for days. Also NASCAR and fireworks…..
The Elevator Glitch
“No, really, this IS your floor.”
The “Unsafe” Room
I’ve never seen a tank perform Parkour through a doorway before. Also, that Tank had very dainty shoulders.
Crysis Glitches
I never actually played this one; apparently my computer was never “good enough” or something.
The Spinning Arm Guy
“I like long walks on the beach and writing my name in the sand.”
The Ouch glitch
“Uh, nah I think you’re gonna be ok. This can be fixed; it’s only a flesh wound.”
The Sims 2 various glitches
Trapping people in their homes, making them pee themselves, creating deliberate fire hazards; it’s all just good wholesome fun.
Because I can’t say anything funny in Similish here is Lily Allen singing in Simlish which sounds kinda funny.
Gears of War 1 & 2 various glitches
The Irish Jig - Because fear makes people do many things: cry, laugh, bust out in spontaneous Irish jig dancing…
The Fetal Position
The train stops here.
Deadrising 2 Cutscene Costume Fun
The various costumes you can have in Deadrising create pretty funny or awkward moments during cutscenes.
The Lego Head
This one is too easy.
The Dino Head
I think doctors should be required to wear dinosaur heads; it seems to make the fear of needles go away.
Team Fortress 2 Crab Spy
This was so funny Valve decided to leave it in.
He’s disguised as a crab…don’t you SEE?
This by no means is a comprehensive list, in fact this a very small list, but we don’t want to make it feel inadequate, do we? I know there are a million other funny glitches out there and a whole category of glitches for retro games…so share them. These are just a few glitches I’ve experienced myself, ones I’ve heard of, or just the ones that popped up on the first page of Google search that I thought were funny or interesting. Consult your doctor and/or psychiatrist, and bank account as necessary before attempting any or all of these.
What are some helpful, annoying, or funny glitches you’ve experienced?
