“What is Going on With Mr. Drake”

“WOOOO!” is all I can say about getting a sneak peek of what is coming when Uncharted 3 launches in November.  Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta opened to Playstation Plus members and Infamous 2 owners on June 28 and opens to all Playstation owners on July 5. Over the 3 weeks that the Beta runs, Naughty Dog is featuring different competitive and co-op online gametypes as well as showing us 3 different maps. Building upon Uncharted 2’s successful multiplayer by adding new features such as objectives and interactive map has already made me addicted to the game. The Beta is a blast but if I could change anything I would give Nathan Drake a shirtless option… just saying!

“Couch Co-op Is Back”

Some of my most fun gaming memories from when I was young were playing The Simpsons Arcade Game. My brother and I would save quarters and go play for hours at the local pizza place. NYNYMy brother would play as Bart and me as Lisa (of course) and had to work together in game and in order to take down Smithers and Mr. Burns with our skateboard and jump rope. What made this game so fun was the bonding that my brother and I got while playing right next to each other. The punches in the arm that were given or received when one of us failed (costing us another quarter) and the accomplishment that we felt together after beating the game were things I will never forget.

Dungeon Siege 3 is the latest Couch Co-Op game to hit Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. This action role-playing game takes place 150 years after the events of Dungeon Siege and the Legion that has protected the kingdom for hundreds of years is almost completely gone and the player needs to restore the Legions power.

Players can chose from four very different charters each having their own strengths, abilities and goals in game. There are nine different sets of equipment which are unique to each character. NYNY When it comes to loot the game drops at random; sometimes it will seem like the game is favoring one character over the other.  This can be annoying but it can also be fun! If you are the one getting all the good stuff you can look at your friend next to you and say “HAHA my stuff is way better than yours!” In the end the loot does even out.

The game mechanics are on the consoles are smooth with easy to understand controls. The level system is intricate but simple to grasp. There are three areas in which you level your characters: abilities, passive skills, and proficiencies . The player cannot unlock or master every skill before the completion of the game which adds to the fun of making sure the player builds their character well and gives the game good replay value.

A distinctive feature of the game is that it always keeps moving. If one of the players needs to leave the AI will take over. That means if a player wants to grab a drink the game does not need to be interrupted and paused, spoiling the game for the other players. The same thing works for online co-op. If a player wants to look at their inventory the other players do not need to pause, the AI just jumps in for that player until that player is finished.  The one down side to the co-op is that only the host player gets to save the progress.

I give Dungeon Siege 3 a big thumbs up with its cool story, dynamic fighting animation and the thrill same room co-op play. With more Couch Co-Op games being made I better be at the top of my game or my arm might end up with a bruise.
