For my video, I decided to link how shooting guns in first person shooters differs from shooting guns in real life. I used video footage from a few select FPS’s showing the same guns I was going to shoot in real life; AK 47, M1 Carbine, Luger, and 44 Magnum. I had some help from my friends and had an absolute BLAST shooting this video. I used Final Cut Pro to edit and put my video together. I apologize for the size and the length, but I think the quality of the video will show the effort put into it.

“Can You Date a Non Gamer?”

Many of us find ourselves stuck in a rut because the one we’re interested in isn’t a gamer or perhaps they don’t really like that many geeky things, but is it possible to have a working relationship with someone who doesn’t share your favorite past time?
Through my own experience, I would have to say that it is possible, but it does involve a little bit more work than usual. I’ve discovered a few ways to help not only your relationship, but ways that you can help your significant other become involved in one of your biggest hobbies. Below I’ve composed a list of things you can do help keep your relationship solid:
1. Listen! My biggest problem was spending too much time on the computer or on LIVE, so when your boyfriend/girlfriend says they want to spend time with you, do it!
2. Get off your phone. It’s easy to go out on a date or out with friends and spend the entire time on your phone, whether it’s on Twitter or just answering emails. Sometimes turning your phone off is the best thing you can do.
3. Get involved. If you’re playing a multiplayer game or watching anime, invite your main squeeze to play or watch too! However, play only a few rounds or watch one or two episodes. Too much might make the other person feel neglected or less important than what you’re playing or watching.
4. Go somewhere else! Get out of the house. Go on a walk, go to the beach, the movies, or out to dinner. I never wanted to go anywhere since everything I needed was at home, but my significant other felt otherwise. Not only is this good for your relationship but it’s good for you too!
5. Find a balance. Turn off (insert online alias here) and turn on (insert real name here). I always had a hard time turning off VULCAN and go back to being Ashton. The amount of time you spend gaming and doing things on the computer should be less compared to the amount of time you spend with your boyfriend/girlfriend. Or perhaps make a certain day your “Gaming Day” where you can spend more time playing and the rest of the week is spent with your other half.

Being in a relationship can be tricky anyway, but gaming can sometimes either make it or break it. Some of you might be fortunate enough to find someone who shares in your passion of all things geeky/gamer, but if not, I hope the list above preps you for what can be the most amazing relationship you’ve ever had! ☺
