“Gaming Split-Personalities”
If you’re like me, and are an extremely vocal online player, I want to know if you’ve ever sat back and really listened to yourself while engaged in battle. Until recently, I had paid little to no attention to it, but one day decided that it was time to be more conscious of the things that come out of my mouth. I very quickly came to realize that I sound like a schizophrenic when playing online. At any given time throughout a match, I can sound like 3-5 totally different people in the matter of minutes. These are some of the many personalities I can take on.

I was one of the very lucky Cadettes that got to work with the Frag Dolls at E3 this year. For me, this was exciting on multiple levels - It was going to be my first E3 EVER, I would be reunited with a ton of friends all the while working the biggest gaming event of the year with them. Also, can’t forget the added bonus of getting a 1337 sneak peak at all of the upcoming games. I was pumped, to say the least
When I found out that I would be spending most of my time demoing Ghost Recon Online at the Ubisoft booth, my initial reaction was super-mega-ultra excitement. But my excitement quickly turned to fear when I realized that GRO was a PC shooter. Dun dun dunnnn… I hadn’t touched a keyboard to game on since MechWarrior back in the early 90’s! I felt nausea from my nervousness setting in. How was I going to show off this amazing games full potential if it was going to be demoed by me; a PC gaming NOOB.
With this realization of noobizm, I knew that I’d need to be a quick learner the first day of E3, and when the time came to play, the pressure was on. I tried not to show that I didn’t know what I was doing, but I’m pretty sure that anyone who looked at me could tell by the petrified look on my face and by the way my hands were fumbling around the keyboard, that I had no clue what to do. GypsyFly, a fellow FDC, must have noticed, because she was quick to come to my rescue. Thank goodness! I was saved. She stood by me, calling out keys and telling me what to do, all while watching me try to just walk and look around simultaneously without staring up at the sky. It was quite embarrassing.
I hadn’t felt like that big of a noob since the very first time I picked up an XBOX controller and tried to play halo. I had watched countess hours of my friends play, and it looked to be easy peasy, but when I finally felt confident enough to try it, I picked up the controller wanting to run right into the action, instead I ended up getting dizzy just trying to walk around and look at the same time.
But just like back then on Halo, it didn’t take me long to get the hang of it – and once I had it, it felt like second nature to me. Here I was, my first day ever playing a PC shooter, and I was whooping on people who had PC gaming experience; Also similar to my first days playing Halo. I was beating all of my guy friends that had been playing for months! That was one of the greatest feelings I ever had, and playing Ghost Recon Online for the first time gave me those feelings back. Feelings that I was sure I would never feel again.

So I thank you GRO, for introducing me to a whole new world, with a familiar feeling of the past <3
