As a huge fan of the first Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers, I was very excited to hear about the new and updated Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012! It brings everything we love about Magic: The Gathering to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC through Steam. DotP 2012 gives us a new campaign, brings us the new multiplayer format Archenemy, and is also a great tool for learning how to play MTG.

“Board Games Evolved!”

The night is young, and you’re looking for something new. You’re used to always doing the same old routine, but you finally feel it’s the right time to mix it up! You call around, and finally a friend offers a decent enough solution.. board game night! You’re expecting some of your childhood favorites like Monopoly, Risk, or even Scrabble, right? All are fun games, but you’re soon pleasantly surprised by board games based on your favorite Sci-Fi show, or even your favorite H.P. Lovecraftian Ctuhulu story.
Board games have definitely grown since the days of Monopoly, and now offer us geek culture fanatics many awesome choices! Every week, I try to get together with my friends and try out a couple new board games. I’ve had the opportunity to try out some really neat games, and I thought I would share some of my favorites. Just as video games have evolved, so have board games!

One of my favorite board games has to be Arkham Horror. This game is set in the roaring 20’s, and your role is that of an investigator. In the city of Arkham, you must investigate a variety of grisly occurrences, and must unravel the mysteries of the Cthulian horrors. This game can be played with up to 8 players, and is especially fun on dark and rainy nights. All you H.P. Lovecraft fans will be more than satisfied with this creepy hit.
Another really fun and addicting game is Battlestar Gallactica: The Board Game. If you’re a huge fan of the Sci Fi Channel’s Battlestar Gallactica, then this is a must have for you! The game is set in a time where the human race was nearly destroyed by a group of robotic humanoids called Cylons. The game revolves around paranoia, and the idea is that one of your comrades is secretly a Cylon spy. Your objective is to figure out who the mole is, before they destroy your ship and crew!
The final game that I wanted to introduce is Dominion. This game is definitely for the strategy and fantasy nuts out there, and the main objective is to carve out a kingdom for yourself. You are a monarch in the making, and you need to acquire the wealth and resources to establish your much wanted title. You do this by strategically using a pool of cards to outwit your opponents, and become the head honcho.
If you want to check out some other really neat board games, I suggest going to www.BoardGameGeek.com! They rate and review a wide variety of games, and can help you find a way to solve those lackluster nights. This blog is apart of a series related to our Casting Call.
