NYNY

March 6th was almost as good as Christmas. The night before, I could barely get to sleep. When I woke up the next day, I was eager to head over to GameStop and pick up my copy of the latest generation of a franchise that I have been heavily devoted to for around thirteen years.

Pokemon!!   Yes, Pokemon is serious business.

I was about ten years old when I first played “Pokemon Blue”. Over the years, the game has not changed much (except for the addition of new Pokemon), yet it continues to bring fans back each generation. It even manages to score many new “trainers” with each new game.

Pokemon Black/White (I have Black) offers players some new and welcoming changes. The Pokemon center and the PokeMart are NOW combined into one building. Does this sound like an AMAZING change to you? If not, then you must not be a Pokemon trainer. Clearly, it should have not have taken five generations for us to have a one-stop-shop when we travel into a new town, but now that we have it, I feel ridiculously spoiled when I revisit previous generations.

There are also other minor things within the game that make it highly enjoyable. It is autumn in Unova. Leaves drift about the screen, water drips down in the caves and wind shifts the grass ever so slightly. The game is simply beautiful for a DS game. With each generation of Pokemon, I feel that it is even more colorful than the last.

The game offers up 150 new Pokemon, which brings the whopping total of pocket monsters to around 629. Although the first 151 share a special place in the hearts of many trainers, each new generation presents many fresh faces that we eventually grow to love.

Pokemon Black/White also has some serious undertones about the morality issue that comes with catching and training Pokemon. It’s something many have questioned, but it has never really shown up in the games. The sub-plots of previous Pokemon generations have not been nearly as deep as what Team Plasma is laying on the table in Black/White.

I love Pokemon and I continue to return time and time again...even though the fans keep getting younger as I get “older”. So, I’m off again for another journey in a new region. One of these days, I will catch them all.
