This weekend I attended PAX in Seattle with the rest of the Frag Dolls. There were four of us in the Black Arrow tournament Ubisoft was sponsoring; I have to admit I was a little nervous. I mean I know I have over 500 hours logged into Rainbow Six 3 and have practiced non stop on Black Arrow since it came out, but for some reason I was still a little scared.
We started the day by setting up 10 systems and playing 4 Frag Dolls against 6 attendies. You would think not losing a single round the whole day of playing would boost my confidents for the tournament, but at that point I had played the game 8 hour solid and my mind was a mess. I remember going outside to get fresh air and thinking “whoa, there’s like real life going on out here.” LOL, my mind was completely warped by playing this game for so long.
When the tournament finally started I collected myself and tried to run encouraging thoughts over in my head. Not that I need it, my teammates are absolutely amazing at the game and they would have carried me if I needed it. Fortunately the first round was a blow out, we played total conquest and won the first round in 30 seconds or less. After that this feeling I have never felt before came over me, it was so amazing! I knew from that point on we were going to win it.
We ended up winning and offering the prize money to the second place winner. They were a group of guys that surprisingly never played the game before that afternoon. They told me later that they were watching us play all day trying to figure out our manoeuvers. Which I have to add they did a great job remembering, they were the only team that seemed to know where we were going to be at all times. I definitely give them props for beating out my good friend Fatass Jackson on the semi final round too. Jackson holds the record for having the most logged in hours on Rainbow; so beating him says a lot about this team.
I just can’t wait until next year. That feeling of winning was just too incredible...I never want it to go away.
