How to Accessorize Like a Geek Girl
May 10, 10:36 am

I sat down to write this blog Sunday evening, it is now Tuesday morning and I’m just now typing out words.  My reasoning? I have been glued to my computer compiling over 100 images and bookmarking EVERYTHING related to geek accessories and clothing.  I realize I might’ve gotten a little too excited about this assignment; I couldn’t help it though, I love LOVE me some geek accessories. My hardest mission was narrowing down my findings to just the essentials, but after much thought and eyestrain I finally settled on 4 must-haves.  In my seven years as a Frag Doll, attending over 11 comic cons and countless gaming events, the following accessories and clothing have always been present, which is why I feel they deserve to be on the top of my list.

MUST HAVE ITEMS

GEEK TEES: Every girl should have at least 7 geeked out t-shirts stuffed in her drawers- One for every day of the week. smile Now that geek culture is becoming more main stream, it is fairly easy to find a t-shirt that represents every kind of geek.  I was walking through JCPenny’s the other day and came across an entire section filled with gaming, pop culture and 80’s cartoon themed T-shirts.... For $9 a piece I loaded up!  Jinx.com is my favorite site for gaming related tees; their women shirts fit well, the fabric is of high quality and my shirts never shrink or fade.theteebank.com is a new site I came across last night. How awesome is their “You are the css to my html” shirt? I WANT!!  Looking for geek specific? Thinkgeek.com has it all!

CONVERSE: Everyone should own a pair of Converse.  They’re affordable, never go out of style and now you have the option to customize the color, patterns and ID Tag.

KNEE HIGH SOCKS: A MUST! Knee highs can give any old outfit flair. One of my favorite looks is pairing my Space Invader Knee high’s with a sexy dress or skirt and combat boots. The site Artisansocks kicks ass because they sell socks with Unicorns on them. :D

CREATIVE HEADBANDS: Every one that knows me, knows about my obsession with headbands. Headbands are fun, easy to wear and unlike hats, they don’t mess up your pretty hair.  I’m always on the search for the next best one, and I think my friend, Suniez might have found it on Etsy See pic on left. Tell me that isn’t the coolest accessory EVER?  I’ll TAKE ONE OF EACH PLEASE! smile

MY TOP PICKS

This is a list of some of my favorite geek accessories. You won’t see me go one day without sporting at least one of these looks

CARDIGANS: Most of the time I cringe when something I’ve been sporting for years hits the masses, because I then feel it’s time for me to move on to something else. But in the case of the Cardigan aka The Grandpa Sweater, I FREAKIN couldn’t be happier with its come back. I finally have options now! No more searching through smelly thrift store racks. Last week I found myself in Forever 21 debating over 6 cardigans; I settled on 3 of them, but I still wish I would have bought all of them.
Reasons I <3 cardigans:
1. Soft and Comfy
2. You can pair them with everything: Dickies, shorts, jeans, skirts, dresses.
3. They remind me of grandpas and school girls.

RAY BAN WAYFARER: I don’t have to say much about the classic Ray Ban Wayfarer.  Like Converse, they never go out of style and I have yet to find someone that looks bad in black framed glasses. Whether it be prescription clear lenses or sunglasses, you can’t go wrong with owning a pair of Ray Bans

SUSPENDERS:
Why wear a belt when you can rock suspenders? I like taking from the movie, Office Space by adding “flair” to mine; the more flair I add, the happier I will appear :D Hot Topic and American Apparel offer a decent selection of suspenders.

LACE SOCKS and ANKLE BOOTS:
I think I might be the only girl besides a 5 year old that adores ankle lace socks.  I usually pair mine up with black ankle boots, short shorts and a cute school girl cardigan.  My only problem is trying to find a pair that fits. Department stores only offer them in children sizes, so I’ve been buying mine from the “sexy costume” section in Halloween outlets. haha smile

CUSTOM ACCESSORIES

DIY CLOTHES                     HANDMADE JEWERLY

Don’t let television and magazines tell you what’s hot, be a trend setter by creating your very own, one –of-a-kind look. DIY (Do-It-Yourself) projects can be quite easy, sometimes all it takes is a little bit of glue, paint and your imagination.  If you’re feeling crafty, but find yourself lacking on ideas, check out ‘How To videos’ on YouTube. Its great way to get inspired. Search for a project you like, but instead of copying step by step, try tweaking it so it becomes your own.

DIY NO LENS GLASSES                        DIY FANNY PACK

AND ONE FOR THE BOYS

BOW TIES: Ever since the Frag Dolls started throwing PAX Parties, we have had a lot of complaints from our male gamer friends about the dress code that is always enforced. Club Venues typically don’t allow jeans and T-shirts, which sends some of our friends into panic mode. Haha. My friend Daniel and Ray’s style is a perfect example of geek fabulous! Their look is simple, accessible and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune.

1. A pair of nice jeans (no holes or stains)
2. Clean Tennis Shoes. The classic black and white Chuck Taylors is always a safe choice.  Note the word “CLEAN” Don’t try rolling in with shoes so old, they speak every time you take a step. Bouncers hate dirty shoes!
3. A solid color button up dress shirt
4. And for the touch of geek fab, add a bow tie. Girls love them! Trust me. Any guy confident enough to rock a bow tie inside a night club is surely going to shine the rest.
