This Just In: Scott Pilgrim Really Rocks! -by Glitch
My mind has been entirely taken over the past month or two by Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. You’ve probably heard some of this SP business- be it from Twitter, a friend, or someone like myself who’s completely fanboy-googley-eyed about the topic. For all you kids new to this epic of epic epicness (hey you can only fault me so much for that corniness- it’s a related reference) I’ll give you the rundown: there are comics, a movie, a game! The story is about Scott Pilgrim, a 23 year old Canadian freeloader who plays bass with his friends in a band called Sex Bob-omb. He is dating high school girl when the story kicks off, but suddenly becomes infatuated when newcomer Ramona Flowers comes to town. On the path of pursuing her, he must defeat her seven evil exes.
Firstly, there is the comic book series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley. There are six volumes, the last of which was just released. I highly recommend these books if a good read full of nerdy references and awesome characters sounds up your alley, whether you are a longtime comic-lover or not. I haven’t laughed aloud reading comics that much in some time. I suggest you all get your bums down to the bookstore and pick up the first book or three to try it on for size!
Here you can see me cuddling my comics and rocking out over my Scott Pilgrim obsession.

Recently the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hit theatres. I was lucky enough to get to see it at the Hollywood Premiere. And… I couldn’t help but go see it again a few nights ago. Here’s what a few well-known nerds have tweeted about the movie:
@claudioPsanchez: Scott Pilgrim was super fun. Jetlaggin’ not so fun.
-Claudio Sanchez- lead singer/guitarist of Coheed and Cambria; writer of The Amory Wars
@HackinTimSeeley: SCOTT PILGRIM. Fun as hell. Better ending sequence than comic. Maybe too weird for the masses? I dunno...I can never tell.
-Tim Seeley- writer/artist of Hack/Slash and WildCats
@HackinTimSeeley: By the way, if “Vampires Suck” makes more than “Scott Pilgrim”. I’m swearing off the cinema for the rest of the year.
-Tim Seeley- writer/artist of Hack/Slash and WildCats
@Reilly_Brown: Scott Pilgrim movie was amazing! There were changes to the story, but they were all done in the spirit of the original and just as good.
-Reilly Brown- artist of Cable & Deadpool and Incredible Hercules
...so there you have it, folks! You heard it straight from the twitter bird’s beak- You gotta see it!
Last but by no means least, the game! Ubisoft developed a downloadable game based on the series. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was released on August 10th on the PlayStation Network and is just about to come to Xbox Live Arcade on the 25th. I can tell you from personal experience that this game hits the old beat-em-up spot. A beautiful 8-bit & 16-bit blend of graphics brings yet another dose of sweet nostalgia to our pixelated hearts. This side-scrolling gem of a game is 1-4 players and a ton of fun. I got to play this game with Alia Shawkat “Maeby” of Arrested Development; I picked her character up and caber-tossed her into an onslaught of opponents. I also got to play with Peter of Anamanaguchi, the chiptune band that composed the music for the game- and he loved it as much as I did. Actually everyone who I played or talked about the game with loved it. So there you have it- if you haven’t take a crack at what the Scott Pilgrim has to offer, you’re seriously missing out! I am so amped on it that I turned myself into a pixelated sprite. Maybe I can glitch my way into the game so I can ball up my 8-bitty fists beat up some punks!

Thinking about the soon-to-come escapades I’ll be enjoying with my team and friends in San Diego for Comic-Con starting tomorrow got me so pumped that I decided to draw a comic myself!
I have long had the determination to start a Frag Doll Comic if I ever made the team… so here’s a start! The name ‘Doll Deviations’ is pending, by the way, teehee. In my comics I’ll be featuring the Frag Dolls, with appearances from the community members, the Frag Doll Cadettes, and video game characters. I’m mega rusty at drawing, but I’ll pick it back up and get better. It’s likely that I’ll teach myself to do most of my comics if not all digitally in the future.

Moving on! So, when do you guys think Spectra’s baby will be born? If you’re right, you get the grand prize of *drumroll, please*...bragging rights! That’s all.
bwahaha. Well, I leave before the crack of dawn, so I should probably go pack; meep.. Any discussions of her coming baby and my comic can commence now!

Have you considered applying to the Frag Dolls Cadette program but haven’t taken that consideration level up to serious status? Read on.
At E3 ‘09 the Dolls told us casting call candidates that they were going to get the Cadette program up & running within a few months. I made it into the first Fall class after that summer. I got the opportunity to go to some really cool events that season.
The program is so fantastic because you get the chance to go to all these events that you’d want to go to anyway if you could afford it! You get to do a job involving video games; umm awesome! I can’t describe how incredible it is to meet and surround yourself with other girls who game. I love being around females who really GET it; not just understand & accept it like most my normal-non-gamer girl friends, heh.
I’ll give you an example of an great moment of comradery I felt recently at E3 a couple weeks ago… I was with a small group of the Cadettes were walking back from the expo to the hotel. We were all wound up from the excitement of the day and some of us were in especially goofy moods. I somehow busted into song of the ol’ Pokémon theme song. One of the Cadettes, Jessica/ PMS Ruckus, jumped right in and joined me. We proceeded to do that with Digimon, Monster Rancher, and so on.. It was one of those ‘I am happy to be where I am with the people I’m here with’ moments. I love being with girls who get my references, make references that I get, share some nerdy commonalities with me, and get excited about the stuff that I do.
The Cadette program brought many new wonderful things into my life. It has undoubtedly given me the best adventures, memories, and excitement in my life. How’s that for some heartfelt testament? I implore you to seek a similar experience and apply to the Cadette Academy. So girls- stop hesitating, stalling, whatever and get your arse in gear. Check out Rhoulette’s Cadette Application blog to find out what you need to do. Now go get your application materials together and send them in to us by the 16th!

As many of you know, I’ve been around the Frag Doll community for a couple years now. Since the beginning, I’ve had a desire to get on the team- I shot a video and wrote a letter of interest and sent them to the Frag Dolls when I first joined the forums. I joined and quickly made many great friends, some whom I count among my best friends today. I was overjoyed to have stumbled upon an online community that fit closer to my personal tastes than I’d found before.
Some months after I joined the community, the Casting Call was announced in the spring of ‘09. I eagerly answered the call by fulfilling the application requirements & conceptualizing a video that I believed showcased both my goofy personality and my love for games. The Frag Doll community had my back through the whole thing, generously offering advice and help along the way. I made it as a semi-finalist, then sent to E3 as a finalist- my first event ever. I had a blast and got to meet some outstanding girls who shared an interest I’d only found in common with guys in the past. I knew I gave it my all and went home feeling like a million bucks. I anxiously awaited the results of the Casting Call to know whether I’d earned myself a spot on the team or not. When I learned that I didn’t, it broke me a little. The support of the community coupled with their belief in me held me together and helped me implicitly, and I’ll always appreciate and love them for that.
(so here’s my shot for a shoutout: Hey Frag Doll kids- I love you guys! Thank you for everything)
Time went on and the Frag Dolls got their Cadette program up ‘n running, and I was part of the first Fall class. I continued to go to all of the major events to work for the Dolls ever since the first. One year later, here I am; back from my first event as an official member of the Frag Doll team. I feel a deeply profound sense of growth and accomplishment within me. I’m proud of myself for not giving up when I didn’t make it on the team at first. I pushed myself to keep on pursuing my dream and eventually it came true.
